Flickr adds to sharing options, now easier to share photos across the Web

flickr
It sure is nice to see some new developer action over at Flickr. The relatively slow-moving photo-sharing service has just announced a new sharing update, which consists of several new and easy ways to embed or link to your photos:
  • Share from Photo page: There's a new sharing option on each and every photo page. When logged off, the button shows only Facebook and Twitter options. But once you log on, you get Tumblr and Blogger too, and can configure other sharing venues as well.
  • Share non-public content on Facebook: This doesn't sound like a great idea, but you now can share private photos on Facebook if you're so inclined (and if you trust your privacy settings).
That's the gist of the update; it makes it easier to show off your pretty pictures in a plethora of places.

Kyobo introduces color e-reader using Qualcomm?s mirasol display in Korea

Kyobo

Fora while now Qualcomm has been working on its mirasol display technology and despite rumors of a delay, they've now announced in partnership with Kyobo in South Korea to bring to market the world’s first e-reader using the technology.

Featuring a 5.7” XGA format (1024 x 768 pixels) mirasol display with 223 ppi, the Kyobo e-reader will be powered by a Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon S2 class processor using Android 2.3 with a custom UI in place.

The Kyobo e-reader will be available at bookstore locations across South Korea, including Kyobo’s flagship Gwanghwamun-jum location in Seoul, for a retail price of KRW349,000 (US$310).

We're guessing we won't ever see the device in the North America but it sure would be nice to see some manufacturers pick up the display for use on devices we can get our hands on. Hit up the source link below to catch a video of the display in action. Plus, the press release is just after the break.

CrunchBase Reveals: Figuring Out Pricing Formulas For Talent Acquisitions With Opani

Screen Shot 2011-11-22 at 2.22.02 PMFollowing my post last night about our effort to use CrunchBase in more ways on TechCrunch, some readers have shared how they're already using it. One was Dirk Neumann from "social supercomputer" startup Opani, which provides tools to help people more easily analyze large data sets. He's used CrunchBase data to try to come up with a formula for pricing talent in startup acquisitions. His analysis, below, is in response to a recent panel at law firm Orrick, where a number of acquisition heads at major tech companies had noted that there was "no general formula" for doing so. He identified 71 early-stage acquisitions and 84 late-stage acquisitions in CrunchBase, then further defined the early stage group as startups purchased for below $66 million, with fewer than 50 employees, and investments of less than $5 million. Later-stage companies were defined as having acquisition prices above $66 million and between 50 and 500 employees. The findings are a bit rough, but here they are:

This Machine Can Tell You If Your Photos Suck Or Rule [Photography]

Xerox research labs have developed a computer program that tells you if your pictures are good or bad. In fact, it's capable of detecting if the photo has that magical, intangible quality that makes an image special. It works. More »

Ant-Roach inflatable robot can carry a family, scare the kids (video)

This 15-foot inflatable pneumatic beast is a confusing mix of child-like inflatable wonder and cold, brutal, robopocalypse-beckoning science. The Ant-Roach (half-anteater, half, er, roach) is still a concept device, with inflatable actuaters on the legs doing the heavy lifting -- apparently up to 1,000 pounds. Manifolds are peppered along the beast's underbelly, with a microcontroller obeying its soft-stomping orders by wireless signal. While it battles for our inflatable robot affections, you can check it (just about) conquering shallow water right after the break.

P.S. We'd be remiss if we didn't point out that the same lab has also developed an inflatable robot arm. Check it out after the break as well.

What Pepper Spray Does to Your Body [Giz Explains]

When Lieutenant John Pike casually hosed down a line of seated protesters with pepper spray, a lot of weird stuff immediately followed. No, we're not talking about the evolution of the meme. Or even the nationwide backlash. More »
